Absolute Beginner Machine Sewing Lesson

Service Description

Have you been wanting to learn how to machine sew but just don't know where to start? This private lesson is for you! What's Included: -3-4 hours of total class time, split into one, two, or even three lessons (the latter is for my youngest learners). -Basic sewing safety -Sewing Machine Anatomy -Notions -How to thread the machine -Learn/practice: straight stitching, back stitching, turning corners, seam allowance, top stitching, and sewing curves -Use your new skills to make a pillow case to bring home (pillow insert included) -Use of my sewing machines are included. I have several Brother CS6000i machines, which have built-in safety features and a speed option to make things easy, especially for young learners. If you prefer to bring your own machine, please include the make and model in your sign-up notes. -Use of all needed sewing notions, such as marking implements, scissors, point turner, iron, etc. -Choose from a variety of pre-washed woven cotton fabrics and coordinating polyester threads are provided. If you prefer to bring your own, please contact Julie. Lesson will be at the Bloom Sewing Studio in Winchester, VA, unless otherwise arranged. NOTE FOR PARENTS/GRANDPARENTS: Private lessons are open to students age 7 and older. There is free wi-fi and plenty of chairs if chaperones wish to stay, though this is no longer required for minors and many parents prefer to go shopping at the nearby Costco or other Winchester-area stores.  The instructor (Julie) has spent several decades working with children, and most recently passed a background check in 2024 (performed for Winchester Parks and Rec).
