Homeschool Fall 2026 Beginner Sewing

Service Description

Children 9-17 can learn how to machine sew in this beginner's class just for homeschoolers! We begin with the very basics: -Basic sewing safety -Sewing Machine Anatomy -Notions -How to thread the machine -Learn/practice: straight stitching, back stitching, turning corners, seam allowance, top stitching, and sewing curves Students will then use their new skills to sew projects! We begin with a pillowcase and a bag (right in time for trick-or-treating!), and then I'll accept feedback from the class about what other projects they are most interested in learning. I will provide seasonal and time-appropriate holiday fabrics, but one of the best parts of sewing is that students aren't limited to fall and winter colors if that's not their jam! What's included: -Use of my sewing machines are included. I have several Brother CS6000i machines, which have built-in safety features and a speed option to make things easy, especially for young learners. If you prefer to bring your own machine, please let me know the make and model so I can make sure I'm familiar with it. -Use of all needed sewing notions, such as needles, marking implements, scissors, point turner, iron, etc. -Fabric, thread, and other items one-time use items such as interfacing are included. There is a one-time $25 materials fee included in the price. Students are welcome to bring their own fabric for one or all projects, but no refunds will be given for the materials fee. Classes are at the Bloom Sewing studio at 210 Flanagan Dr., Winchester, VA 22602. Unfortunately the studio is not wheelchair accessible as it is down a flight of concrete steps. Please also note that wearing a high-quality mask (KN95 or better) is required to make the class safe and accessible to all, including immunocompromised students. Students with special needs are welcome as long as they can safely work independently (if they cannot, please see my 1-on-1/2-on-1 lessons).
